Relieving letter or experience certificate?
UAE law does not mention a relieving letter. It does require the employer, on request at the end of the contract, to give a free experience certificate with the start and end dates, total service, job title, last wage and reason the contract ended, and nothing that could harm the worker's reputation or job chances (Article 13(11)). This relieving letter uses the same neutral details. If the employee asks for the certificate, issue it as well.

Frequently asked questions
What is a relieving letter?
A letter from the employer confirming that the employee has been relieved of their duties on a stated date, usually after resignation. New employers, especially in India and the Gulf, often ask for it to show that the person has left their previous job properly.
Is a UAE employer required to give a relieving letter?
Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 does not mention relieving letters. It requires an experience certificate, free of charge, if the worker asks for one at the end of the contract (Article 13(11)). Many employers give both.
What should a relieving letter include?
The employee's name and job title, the date their resignation was accepted, the last working day, the total length of service and, if you choose, the last wage. It should not include remarks that could harm the employee's chances of finding a new job, which the law rules out for experience certificates.
When must the final settlement be paid?
Within 14 days of the end of the contract, the employer must pay the worker's wages and all other entitlements (Article 53). If you enter a settlement date more than 14 days after the last working day, the tool warns you.
How is the total service counted?
From the start date to the last working day, counting both days, so 1 March 2021 to 28 February 2026 is exactly five years.
Do you store what I type?
No. Your details are sent to our server only to build the preview and the DOCX or PDF file, and the letter is returned straight to your browser. Nothing is saved, logged or used for anything else, and you do not need an account.
