Types of UAE Work Visas

Employment Visa

2-3 years (renewable)

Standard work visa sponsored by a UAE employer. Requires a job offer, valid passport, medical fitness certificate, and Emirates ID.

Key Requirements:

  • Valid job offer from UAE employer
  • Valid passport (6+ months validity)
  • Medical fitness test
  • Emirates ID registration
  • Educational certificates (attested)

Golden Visa

5-10 years

Long-term residency visa for investors, entrepreneurs, specialized talents, researchers, and outstanding students. No employer sponsor required.

Key Requirements:

  • Investment of AED 2M+ OR
  • Specialized talent in science, tech, culture, or sports OR
  • Entrepreneurs with approved project OR
  • Monthly salary of AED 30,000+ with bachelor's degree

Green Visa

5 years

Self-sponsored residency visa for skilled professionals, freelancers, and investors. Allows sponsorship of family members.

Key Requirements:

  • Skilled professional with valid employment contract
  • Minimum salary requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Valid health insurance

Freelancer Visa

1-2 years

For self-employed professionals working in approved free zones. Allows you to work independently without an employer sponsor.

Key Requirements:

  • Freelance permit from a free zone authority
  • Proof of professional qualifications
  • Health insurance
  • NOC from current sponsor (if applicable)

The Application Process

The typical employment visa process takes 2-4 weeks from start to finish.

Secure a Job Offer

Receive and accept a formal job offer from a UAE-based employer. The offer letter should detail salary, benefits, and job title.

Entry Permit

Your employer applies for an entry permit (work visa) through MOHRE. This typically takes 3-5 business days.

Enter the UAE

Enter the UAE within 60 days of the entry permit being issued. Complete immigration procedures at the airport.

Medical Fitness Test

Complete a medical examination at an approved health center within 30 days of entry. Results are typically ready within 48 hours.

Emirates ID

Register for your Emirates ID at an ICP (Federal Authority for Identity) service center. Biometrics are captured during registration.

Residence Visa Stamping

Your employer submits all documents for residence visa stamping. Once approved, the visa is stamped in your passport.
