External Job Description Director – Business Development Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE Department: EDGE Commercial – Business Development Reporting to: VP, Business Development About The Role EDGE Group is seeking an experienced Director – Business Development to lead strategic growth, opportunity development and customer engagement across its advanced technology and defence portfolio. The role will focus on identifying high-value opportunities, developing strategic partnerships and expanding EDGE’s presence across regional and international markets, working closely with technical, commercial and programme teams. Key Responsibilities • Develop and execute Business Development strategies aligned with EDGE’s growth objectives. • Identify market trends, customer requirements and emerging opportunities across EDGE’s technology portfolio. • Lead the identification, qualification and capture of high-value opportunities. • Develop customer engagement, capture and commercial strategies. • Build and maintain senior relationships with government, defence, security and industry stakeholders. • Develop strategic partnerships, alliances, joint ventures and international business opportunities. • Collaborate across EDGE’s technology clusters to develop integrated and differentiated solutions. • Lead opportunity shaping, proposal development and commercial negotiations. • Maintain a strong business development pipeline and provide accurate forecasts and market intelligence. • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory, export control and governance requirements. Qualifications & Experience • 15+ years of experience in Business Development, Strategic Sales, Commercial, Programme or Product Managemen • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Technology, Defence or related field / MBA or relevant Master’s degree preferred. • Knowledge or experience in technologies and products in at least a few of the following areas: integrated C5ISR systems, C5ISR products, multi-intelligence fusion, sensing and intelligence (EW, Radar, EO/IR, SAR, AIS, acoustics, GEOINT, OSINT, etc), artificial intelligence (AI), platforms, autonomy, missiles, weapons, multi-domain systems and technologies, and tactical systems. • Knowledge of one or more EDGE clusters, or experience with similar systems: Platforms & Systems, Missiles & Weapons, Secure Intelligence Systems, Advanced Sensing, Homeland Security, and Technology and Industrialization • Experience in the defense sector. • Proven experience developing and winning complex government and defence opportunities. • Strong experience engaging senior government, defence and international industry stakeholders. • Strong commercial, negotiation, partnership and opportunity-capture capabilities. • Experience managing strategic pipelines, forecasts and complex proposals. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Defence Studies, Weapons Engineering, or a related field; Master’s/MBA preferred. 15+ years’ experience in Business Development, Sales, Programme or Product Management within the defence sector. Deep expertise in missile systems, guided munitions, precision weapons, propulsion, GNC, seeker technologies, warheads, fuzes, and related systems. Proven track record managing major defence programmes and high-value opportunities. Strong knowledge of defence contracting, RFPs, pricing, export controls, and international markets. Exceptional strategic thinking, negotiation, stakeholder management, leadership, and executive communication skills. Excellent English; Arabic is an advantage.
Develop and execute the Business Development strategy and long-term growth plans for the Missiles & Weapons domain. Identify, shape, and capture high-value opportunities across missiles, guided weapons, artillery, precision strike systems, and weapon subsystems. Build and maintain senior relationships with Armed Forces, defence ministries, procurement agencies, and strategic international partners. Lead capture strategies, competitive positioning, commercial proposals, pricing, and opportunity governance. Identify partnerships, joint ventures, co-development, technology transfer, and industrial participation opportunities. Monitor market trends, emerging threats, customer requirements, and advanced weapons technologies. Maintain a qualified pipeline, revenue forecasts, risk assessments, and executive-level reporting. Ensure compliance with defence regulations, export controls, and internal governance.
