What is the overstay fine in the UAE per day?
AED 50 for each day, for visit, tourist and residence visas alike. The rate has been the same for all visa types since 2022, when the residence fine rose from AED 25 and the visit visa fine fell from AED 100.
When does the overstay fine start?
From the day after your grace period ends. For a visit or tourist visa we found no official grace period, so assume fines start the day after the visa expires. For a residence visa, the grace period runs from 30 to 180 days depending on the visa type and emirate.
What is the fine for a cancelled visa overstay?
The same AED 50 a day, starting the day after the grace period that follows the cancellation. In Dubai the grace period for an employment visa is 60 days. Use our visa cancellation calculator to find your last day.
Is there a maximum overstay fine?
No cap is published on the ICP or u.ae pages we checked, so the fine keeps growing at AED 50 a day. The authorities can waive or reduce fines on request in some cases.
How do I check my visa fine online?
In Dubai, use the GDRFA fines inquiry service with your file number, Emirates ID or passport. For the other emirates, log in to ICP smart services or the UAEICP app with UAE Pass. Our calculator estimates the fine but cannot see your record.
What other fees do I pay when I leave after an overstay?
ICP charges an AED 100 smart service fee on the fine payment and AED 300 for a departure permit (AED 200 plus AED 100). GDRFA Dubai charges AED 241 for its departure permit. You must leave within 7 days of the permit being issued.
Can I get an overstay fine waived or reduced?
GDRFA Dubai has a service to request an exemption from fines, decided by its fines committee, which needs a letter explaining the reasons. The UAE has also run one-off amnesties, such as the 2024 amnesty that started on 1 September 2024. These are not automatic, so ask GDRFA or ICP.
Is there an Emirates ID late fine as well?
Yes. A late Emirates ID renewal costs AED 20 a day, up to AED 1,000. u.ae says it starts one month after the card expires.
An estimate from the published rules, not legal advice. Your actual fine, any waiver and the date fines start come from your GDRFA or ICP record. Check it on the official service before you travel.
