IT Asset and Configuration officer

Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented IT Asset & Configuration Management Specialist to manage IT assets, maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), and ensure compliance with IT asset management and configuration management policies. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with IT Asset Management (ITAM), CMDB processes, IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms, and ITIL best practices. The role involves maintaining accurate IT asset and configuration records, optimizing asset lifecycles, ensuring software license compliance, supporting audits, and coordinating with vendors to ensure effective management of the organization's IT resources. Key Responsibilities • Develop, implement, and maintain IT Asset Management (ITAM) and Configuration Management policies, procedures, and standards. • Manage and maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of Configuration Item (CI) records. • Oversee the complete IT asset lifecycle, including procurement, deployment, allocation, maintenance, renewal, and disposal. • Monitor hardware and software inventory and ensure asset records are up to date. • Ensure software license compliance by tracking license usage, renewals, entitlements, and contractual obligations. • Conduct regular asset reconciliations and support CMDB data quality reviews to identify and resolve discrepancies. • Support internal and external audits by maintaining accurate asset registers, configuration records, license documentation, and compliance evidence. • Coordinate with IT teams, procurement, finance, and vendors regarding asset procurement, warranties, software renewals, contracts, and support agreements. • Identify opportunities to improve asset utilization, reduce unnecessary costs, and maximize the value of IT investments. • Ensure IT asset and configuration management processes align with ITIL best practices and organizational governance requirements. • Prepare reports and dashboards on asset inventory, lifecycle status, license compliance, and CMDB data quality. • Collaborate with IT Service Management teams to ensure configuration information supports incident, problem, and change management processes. Required Qualifications and Experience • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. • 2 - 3 years of relevant experience in IT Asset Management, Configuration Management, CMDB administration, or IT Service Management. • Hands-on experience with an ITSM platform such as ServiceNow, BMC Helix, or an equivalent solution. • Strong understanding of ITIL principles and IT asset and configuration management practices. • Practical knowledge of hardware and software asset lifecycle management. • Familiarity with software licensing, compliance requirements, asset reconciliation, and audit support. • Experience maintaining CMDB records and ensuring configuration data accuracy. Preferred Qualifications • ITIL Foundation certification. • ServiceNow or equivalent ITSM/CMDB platform training or certification. • IT Asset Management or Software Asset Management certification. • Experience supporting IT audits and compliance assessments.
