Substation Civil Design Engineer – Power Substation Projects Location: Dubai, UAE Department: Engineering – Dubai Design Hub Employment Type: Full-Time Industry: Power / Substation / EPC Engineering Job Overview We are looking for an experienced Substation Civil Design Engineer to join our Dubai Design Hub, supporting power substation projects across the Middle East, Africa and other international markets. This is a design-focused engineering position for candidates with proven civil design experience in HV/EHV power substations. The successful candidate must have hands-on experience in the civil design of AIS and/or GIS substations, preferably at 132kV, 220kV or 400kV voltage levels. Substation civil design experience is mandatory. Candidates whose experience is mainly in buildings, general infrastructure, site construction, supervision or QA/QC without actual substation design experience will not be considered. Key Responsibilities Perform civil design and engineering for HV/EHV AIS and GIS power substations. Prepare and review substation general civil layouts and site development drawings. Carry out civil design for: Site grading and earthworks Internal and access roads Pavement and hardstanding areas Stormwater and surface drainage systems Underground utilities and service networks Cable trenches, cable routes and pits Boundary walls, fencing and gates Prepare and/or coordinate civil and structural design for: Power transformer foundations GIS/AIS equipment foundations Control and switchgear buildings Equipment support structures Gantries and steel structures Cable trenches and associated structures Other substation-related civil works Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, technical specifications, BOQs and other design deliverables. Coordinate civil design interfaces with Primary, Secondary, Electrical and MEP engineering teams. Review vendor drawings and technical documents for civil and structural interfaces. Ensure designs comply with project specifications, applicable international standards and client/utility requirements. Provide engineering support during design review, technical clarification and EPC project execution. Mandatory Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Proven professional experience in civil design for HV/EHV power substations. Hands-on design experience with AIS and/or GIS substations. Experience with 132kV, 220kV and/or 400kV substations is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of: Substation civil layout Site grading Roads and paving Drainage Underground utilities Cable trenches Transformer and electrical equipment foundations Strong proficiency in AutoCAD. Ability to independently prepare and review civil engineering drawings and design deliverables. Good understanding of multidisciplinary coordination within power substation projects. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience with power EPC contractors, engineering consultants or utility substation projects. UAE / GCC substation project experience is highly preferred. Candidates currently based in the UAE will be given preference. Experience with Civil 3D, Revit and/or BIM is an advantage.
