CSSD Specialist

Key Responsibilities • Perform cleaning and decontamination of reusable medical instruments and equipment. • Operate sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers (autoclaves), according to approved procedures. • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, damage, completeness, and proper functionality. • Assemble and package surgical instrument sets and medical supplies according to established standards. • Monitor sterilization cycles and verify physical, chemical, and biological indicators as required. • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, load monitoring, equipment maintenance, and traceability. • Ensure proper storage, handling, and distribution of sterile supplies. • Follow infection prevention and control policies, occupational safety procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements. • Perform routine checks and report equipment malfunctions or sterilization failures to the supervisor. • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the decontamination, preparation and packaging, sterilization, and sterile storage areas. • Follow established procedures for handling contaminated instruments and transporting them safely. • Participate in quality improvement activities, audits, staff training, and competency assessments. • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and applicable professional standards. Qualifications and Requirements • Diploma or degree in CSSD, sterile processing, or another relevant healthcare field, as accepted by the employer. • Relevant experience in a Central Sterile Services Department is preferred. • Knowledge of sterilization methods, medical instrument handling, and infection prevention principles. • Familiarity with sterilization monitoring, documentation, and instrument traceability. • Ability to operate CSSD equipment safely and effectively. • Professional certification may be required or preferred, depending on the employer. • Valid professional registration or classification, where applicable.
