SENIOR OUD, BAKHOOR & ARABIAN FINE FRAGRANCE FORMULATOR Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Employment type: Full-time Workplace: On-site Indicative salary: SAR 24,000–38,000 per month, depending on direct formulation experience 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐋𝐘 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐔𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐄 Palomba General Trading LLC is seeking a highly specialised Senior Oud, Bakhoor & Arabian Fine Fragrance Formulator for Saudi Arabia. This position is intended for a professional who has actually formulated Middle Eastern fragrance products, not simply evaluated, sold or marketed them. The successful candidate should have hands-on experience creating and modifying formulas for: • oud fragrances; • bakhoor; • attars; • mukhallat; • incense-based compositions; • amber fragrances; • musk fragrances; • rose-oud structures; • oriental fine fragrance. This is not a perfume retail, sales, marketing or general fragrance-development role. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 The role is responsible for creating fragrance formulas that are technically credible, commercially relevant and culturally appropriate for Saudi and GCC consumers. The candidate should be able to move from: creative direction → formula → modification → performance testing → final fragrance concept while understanding the specific olfactory codes of the region. The objective is to develop fragrances with: • strong identity; • depth; • diffusion; • longevity; • high perceived quality; • authentic Middle Eastern character; • modern international execution. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 • Create original Arabian fine-fragrance formulas. • Develop oud-based compositions. • Develop bakhoor fragrance systems. • Formulate attars and mukhallat. • Build incense and resin accords. • Develop modern amber, musk and oriental accords. • Work with rose, saffron, woods and balsamic materials. • Modify formulas based on olfactory evaluation. • Improve diffusion and substantivity. • Optimise performance on skin and fabric. • Balance natural and synthetic materials. • Develop fragrance variants for different concentration levels. • Evaluate raw-material quality. • Compare oud qualities and oud accords. • Create commercially differentiated fragrance structures. • Support fragrance stability and performance evaluation. • Work with external fragrance houses and ingredient suppliers where required. • Maintain formulation documentation and modification history. 𝐎𝐮𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 The candidate should understand that “oud” is not one single smell. Strong candidates should be capable of distinguishing and working with profiles such as: • woody oud; • smoky oud; • leathery oud; • animalic oud; • sweet oud; • balsamic oud; • medicinal oud; • resinous oud. Experience with both: • natural agarwood materials; • reconstructed oud accords is highly desirable. The candidate should understand how oud behaves with: • rose; • saffron; • musk; • amber; • sandalwood; • patchouli; • leather; • incense. 𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐫 & 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 Direct professional experience with bakhoor is strongly preferred. Candidates should understand: • fragrance concentration; • heat behaviour; • smoke character; • diffusion; • persistence; • resin interaction; • wood-chip or base compatibility; • fragrance evolution during burning. This is a deliberately narrow requirement. We are not looking for someone who has merely smelled bakhoor. Humanity already has enough experts created by shopping malls. 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐫 & 𝐌𝐮𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭 Candidates should ideally have experience with: • concentrated oil perfumes; • non-alcoholic fragrance systems; • traditional attar structures; • oil-based fragrance performance; • layering concepts; • mukhallat formulation. The candidate should understand how oil-based systems behave differently from conventional alcohol-based fine fragrance. 𝐑𝐚𝐰 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 Professional familiarity should ideally include: Naturals • oud / agarwood; • rose; • sandalwood; • patchouli; • frankincense; • myrrh; • labdanum; • saffron; • vetiver; • citrus oils. Synthetics / Accords • amber materials; • musks; • woody ambers; • leather notes; • oud bases; • diffusive woody materials; • fixative systems. The candidate should understand the interaction between natural complexity and synthetic performance. 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 The role requires someone capable of taking an existing formula and deliberately changing: • strength; • diffusion; • longevity; • sweetness; • smokiness; • animalic character; • dryness; • woodiness; • floral balance; • market positioning. We need someone who can explain what they changed and why. Not someone whose development method consists of adding more oud until everybody in the room stops speaking. 𝐒𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 Direct familiarity with Saudi fragrance preferences is highly desirable. Relevant understanding may include: • high fragrance concentration; • strong performance expectations; • layering; • oud and musk usage; • incense culture; • luxury fragrance purchasing behaviour; • traditional versus contemporary Saudi fragrance styles. Candidates with direct experience working for Saudi, UAE, Kuwaiti or Omani fragrance houses will be particularly relevant. 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟
