Senior Structural Engineer - Data Centre

Your impact Jacobs is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join its Construction Supervision team supporting the delivery of Hyperscale Data Center and Mission-Critical Infrastructure projects across the Middle East. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all structural engineering and construction supervision activities, ensuring that structural works are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, international standards, client requirements, and local authority regulations. The role requires extensive experience in the supervision of reinforced concrete and structural steel structures associated with hyperscale data centers, including data halls, central utility plants, substations, generator buildings, cooling infrastructure, and associated support facilities. The candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful delivery of highly resilient and operationally critical facilities. Key Responsibilities Construction Supervision • Supervise all structural construction activities and ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, project standards, and applicable codes. • Review contractor shop drawings, method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), material submittals, and technical documentation. • Monitor contractor performance and productivity to ensure compliance with project schedules, quality standards, and contractual requirements. • Conduct regular site inspections and ensure timely resolution of construction and quality-related issues. • Review and evaluate technical queries, requests for information (RFIs), and contractor proposals. • Identify and mitigate structural risks and construction challenges that may impact project delivery. • Coordinate with Resident Engineers, Inspectors, MEP Engineers, Architects, and Project Management teams to ensure seamless project execution. Structural Engineering Oversight • Review structural designs and calculations prepared by contractors, designers, and specialist consultants. • Ensure compliance with project specifications, international design standards, local regulations, and client requirements. • Assess constructability and value-engineering proposals while maintaining structural integrity and operational performance. • Review temporary works designs, including formwork, shoring systems, excavation support systems, crane foundations, and temporary structural supports. • Support multidisciplinary design coordination throughout construction and testing phases. Data Center Structural Systems • Provide technical leadership and construction supervision for all structural systems associated with hyperscale data centers and mission-critical facilities, ensuring compliance with approved designs, project specifications, applicable codes, and industry best practices. • Oversee the construction of reinforced concrete, structural steel, and composite structures supporting data halls, administration buildings, central utility plants, substations, generator buildings, and other critical infrastructure. • Monitor the execution of high-load floor systems, equipment support structures, vibration-sensitive installations, long-span structures, and structural elements designed to support mission-critical operations. • Supervise the construction and inspection of foundation systems, including piled foundations, raft foundations, equipment foundations, transformer plinths, generator foundations, chiller supports, and other heavy-duty structural elements. • Ensure proper coordination between structural, architectural, civil, MEP, ICT, and commissioning teams to facilitate seamless integration of critical infrastructure systems. • Review structural interfaces, penetrations, embedded items, equipment support requirements, and temporary works to ensure constructability and compliance with design intent. • Verify that structural works meet the resilience, redundancy, reliability, and operational performance requirements associated with Tier III and Tier IV Data Center facilities. • Support quality assurance and quality control activities through inspections, material reviews, testing verification, and resolution of non-conformances. • Identify and proactively mitigate structural risks, constructability challenges, and technical issues that may impact project delivery, safety, quality, or schedule. • Support testing, commissioning, and handover activities by ensuring structural systems and supporting infrastructure are completed and documented in accordance with project requirements. Stakeholder Coordination • Liaise with clients, contractors, design consultants, specialist vendors, and authorities. • Attend technical meetings, progress reviews, coordination workshops, and project inspections. • Provide technical advice and recommendations on structural matters affecting project delivery. • Support client reporting requirements through preparation of technical reports and progress updates. Here's what you'll need Qualifications & Experience Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited university. • Minimum 12-15 years of overall experience in structural engineering, design review, and construction supervision. • Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience on Hyperscale Data Centers, Tier III/Tier IV Data Centers, Mission-Critical Facilities, or Digital Infrastructure projects. • Proven experience supervising construction of reinforced concrete and structural steel structures, including data halls, utility plants, substations, generator facilities, and support buildings. • Demonstrated experience overseeing complex foundation systems including piled foundations, raft foundations, equipment foundations, and heavy-load structures. • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout construction and commissioning phases. • Previous experience managing structural inspections, technical reviews, contractor compliance, and quality assurance activities. • Experience working under FIDIC-based contracts and international project delivery frameworks.
