About the role Position Title: Senior Consultant Geophysicist - Exploration Geophysics Work Location: Kuwait Department: On-sync Energy Management Services Company. Job Responsibilities • Lead basin-scale geophysical evaluations integrating seismic, gravity, magnetic, and well data to define regional structural frameworks, basin architecture, and tectonic evolution. • Conduct regional seismic interpretation, horizon mapping, and cross-section construction to evaluate petroleum system elements, including source rocks, reservoirs, seals, and traps. • Integrate 2D/3D seismic and potential field data to develop subsurface structural, basement, and sediment-thickness models. • Evaluate basin- and play-level exploration risks by integrating geochemical, biostratigraphic, petrophysical, and geophysical data. • Prepare and present Play Chance Assessments, Petroleum System Models, and other regional exploration studies to support management decisions. • Generate, map, evaluate, and rank exploration prospects and leads using 3D seismic interpretation, attribute analysis, AVO/AVAz, and other advanced techniques. • Perform probabilistic volumetric assessments, including Monte Carlo analysis and P10/P50/P90 resource distributions, in accordance with SPE-PRMS principles. • Lead structural interpretation, fault mapping, time-depth conversion, depth uncertainty analysis, DHI evaluation, and seismic inversion studies. • Develop ranked prospect portfolios incorporating Geological Chance of Success, resource estimates, and exploration risk assessments. • Design and evaluate 2D and 3D seismic acquisition programs, including survey geometry, source and receiver parameters, fold, offset, and azimuth coverage. • Conduct pre-survey modelling, illumination analysis, and noise assessment to optimize seismic acquisition design and cost efficiency. • Provide technical oversight during seismic acquisition activities and evaluate emerging technologies such as broadband, simultaneous-source, nodal, and distributed acoustic sensing systems. • Manage seismic acquisition projects and contracts from planning and tendering through execution, quality control, and final acceptance. • Provide geophysical input to exploration well planning, including well location, target definition, depth prognosis, and formation evaluation requirements. • Support drilling activities through trajectory assessment, subsurface hazard evaluation, and interpretation of LWD/MWD data. • Conduct post-drill seismic-to-well ties, synthetic seismograms, wavelet extraction, velocity modelling, and prospect re-evaluation. • Interpret and integrate gravity, magnetic, magnetotelluric, and other non-seismic datasets to improve subsurface understanding. • Apply forward and inverse modelling techniques to evaluate basement, salt, igneous bodies, and other complex geological features. • Evaluate emerging exploration technologies, including surface geochemistry, remote sensing, hyperspectral analysis, and other non-seismic methods. • Promote the application of AI/ML-assisted geophysical interpretation, automated seismic interpretation, seismic facies classification, and machine-learning-based subsurface workflows. • Contribute to digital geoscience initiatives, including cloud-based interpretation, high-performance computing, and advanced rock physics applications. • Prepare technical geophysical reports, play maps, prospect portfolios, and exploration studies for management and stakeholder review. • Present technical findings to senior management, technical committees, partners, regulators, and relevant industry forums as required. • Mentor and develop geoscience professionals through technical training, knowledge transfer, and professional development activities. • Lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate effectively with geophysicists, geologists, geochemists, reservoir engineers, drilling teams, and other technical specialists. Qualification Requirements • PhD in Geophysics, Geoscience, or a closely related discipline. • Minimum 20 years of professional Upstream Oil & Gas experience, with significant experience in E&P exploration and geophysical studies. • Extensive experience in basin analysis, regional exploration, prospect generation, seismic interpretation, and exploration risk assessment. • Strong expertise in 2D/3D seismic interpretation, seismic attributes, AVO/AVAz, DHI analysis, seismic inversion, and depth conversion. • Proven experience in seismic acquisition planning, survey design, quality control, and management of seismic projects. • Strong knowledge of potential field methods, including gravity, magnetic, and magnetotelluric interpretation and modelling. • Experience with probabilistic resource estimation and exploration risk assessment in accordance with recognized industry standards. • Demonstrated experience planning and supporting exploration wells and conducting post-drill evaluation and calibration studies. • Experience applying AI/ML, digital geoscience, and emerging technologies to exploration workflows is highly desirable. • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams comprising geophysicists, geologists, geochemists, reservoir engineers, and other technical specialists. • Solid experience developing, scoping, planning, and managing complex exploration projects and programs. • Demonstrated international experience working with major E&P companies, research organizations, or technical institutions. • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, analytical, problem-solving, communication, innovation, and stakeholder-management skills. • Fluency in English with strong technical report-writing and presentation skills. • A strong record of technical publications in recognized geoscience or industry journals is preferred. • Middle East experience is an advantage.
