Research Engineer

Department: College of Engineering Division: COE&AC Job Family: Faculty-Academic Reports to: Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies Location: Alfaisal University - Riyadh Working hours: Eight hours per day, five days a week Benefits: MBA as per AU policy – Family insurance The Research Engineer supports research, development, and technical implementation activities in robotics, drones, and autonomous systems. The role involves contributing to system integration, prototype development, testing, and deployment of engineering solutions within research projects and academic programs. The Research Engineer provides technical and operational support for laboratories, research initiatives, and student projects, while collaborating with faculty, researchers, and industry partners to deliver funded projects and departmental objectives. The position also contributes to laboratory operations, student mentoring, and the advancement of applied research and innovation activities in relevant engineering fields. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Provides laboratory management and technical support by maintaining engineering laboratories, equipment, software, and technical resources to ensure their effective operation and availability for academic and research activities. Supports academic programs by assisting faculty members with laboratory-based courses, practical exercises, demonstrations, and curriculum activities in robotics, drones, autonomous systems, and related engineering fields. Participates in project implementation and system integration by assembling, configuring, testing, validating, and deploying hardware and software solutions in accordance with project requirements and technical specifications. Conducts research and development activities by contributing to prototype design, experimentation, data collection, performance evaluation, and technical documentation for funded and departmental research projects. Guides and mentors students in the development of capstone, competition, and research projects by providing technical expertise and supporting project planning, execution, and validation activities. Maintains laboratory equipment and technical assets by performing routine inspections, troubleshooting issues, coordinating repairs, and ensuring operational readiness of facilities and resources. Prepares and maintains technical documentation, project records, laboratory inventories, and operational reports to support research activities, project tracking, and compliance requirements. Ensures compliance with laboratory safety procedures and operational standards by monitoring practices, conducting inspections, and promoting a safe working environment in engineering laboratories and the Automotive Center. Collaborates with faculty, researchers, and external partners to support the planning, execution, and coordination of funded research projects and engineering initiatives. Supports procurement and resource planning by identifying laboratory and project requirements, preparing technical specifications, and coordinating the acquisition of equipment, materials, and software tools. Contributes to continuous improvement of laboratory and research activities by evaluating processes, identifying gaps, and recommending improvements to tools and workflows. Performs all duties in a professional, effective, and confidential manner. Performs all other related duties as required or assigned by the manager. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institute. Master degree is preferable. Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) by Project Management Institute (Desirable). Minimum of four (04) years of experience in Electromechanical projects or related fields. For Master degree two years of experience.

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institute. Master degree is preferable. Certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) by Project Management Institute (Desirable). Minimum of four (04) years of experience in Electromechanical projects or related fields. For Master degree two years of experience.
