To manage patients for whom he/she is responsible to the highest attainable standard of care within the resources of Dallah Hospital while working under the supervision of the consultants in the Diabetes Center, to assess and treat patients attending the Center, or who are consulting any other member of the Center. To see patients by appointment, normally after receiving a written referral (there are no ?emergency? consultations). Appointments by telephone may be accepted if the Chiropodist is satisfied that sufficient details of the problem have been communicated for this to be judged as necessary. Within the priorities mentioned above, the Chiropodist has full control over the appointments for his/her service, judging the patient?s needs on their merits. Responsible for seeing patients in the clinic, however, inpatients may be seen on the wards if necessary, at the discretion of the Chiropodist and the patients with vascular problems should be referred to vascular surgeon and should not be accepted. Responsible for assessing the patients with acute ulcers together with the doctor and the patient will remain under the responsibility of referring physician during the period of treatment. Implements appropriate policies and procedures to achieve the Hospital?s goals and objectives in pursuit of Standards of Care, Quality/ Performance Improvement. Participate in patient and family education to help patients and families to better understand and participate in their care and make well informed care decisions. Performs any other duties within the range of his/her professional knowledge and skills as directed by the Head of Diabetes Center. Requirements: Essential: 2-3 years experience in the management of diabetic foot disease. Essential: Staff Nurse with training certificate in diabetic foot care from a recognized institute.
See patients by appointment (including after written referrals), manage appointments with full control over scheduling based on patient needs, see in-clinic patients and, if necessary, inpatients on the wards, refer vascular-problem patients to a vascular surgeon and not accept them directly, assess patients with acute ulcers in collaboration with the doctor while the referring physician remains responsible, implement policies to meet hospital standards of care and quality improvement, participate in patient and family education to aid understanding and informed decisions, perform other duties within professional knowledge as directed by Head of Diabetes Center.
