The Application Architect is responsible for defining, assessing, and evolving the enterprise application architecture to ensure that the application landscape supports business capabilities, digital transformation priorities, integration needs, security requirements, and enterprise architecture standards. The role focuses on current-state application assessment, target-state design, application portfolio optimization, modernization, rationalization, interoperability, and alignment with enterprise technology direction.
Develop and maintain the enterprise application architecture aligned with business strategy and enterprise direction. Assess current application landscape, define target-state architecture and transition roadmaps, map applications to capabilities/services/processes/data/tech platforms, identify duplication and gaps, support modernization, consolidation, retirement, and cloud migration. Define architecture principles, standards, patterns, and reference architectures. Design interaction models, dependency maps, and integration touchpoints. Collaborate with solution, integration, data, cloud, infrastructure, and security architects for end-to-end coherence. Assess COTS, SaaS, custom, and platform-based solutions. Evaluate scalability, maintainability, interoperability, resilience, security, and alignment with standards. Support Application Portfolio Management and lifecycle activities. Provide guidance for APIs, microservices, modular apps, event-driven solutions, and modern platforms. Participate in governance, design reviews, and Architecture Review Boards. Support RFPs, vendor evaluations, and technical assessments. Identify risks, dependencies, constraints, and remediation actions. Ensure architecture decisions are practical, traceable, and aligned with business needs.
