Kitchen/Laundry Technician

Fairmont Ajman The Kitchen/Laundry Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of kitchen and laundry equipment throughout the hotel. The role ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably, while minimizing operational downtime and maintaining compliance with hotel standards, safety requirements, and manufacturer specifications. Key Responsibilities: Equipment Maintenance & Repairs Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of kitchen and laundry equipment. Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating, and refrigeration-related equipment as applicable. Maintain equipment such as ovens, combi ovens, cooking ranges, fryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, washing machines, dryers, ironing equipment, and other back-of-house equipment. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns from Kitchen, Stewarding, Housekeeping, and Laundry departments. Diagnose equipment faults and identify the root cause of failures. Replace defective components, parts, switches, thermostats, heating elements, motors, belts, bearings, valves, and other components as required. Ensure repaired equipment is tested and safe for operational use before being returned to the department. Preventive Maintenance Follow the hotel’s preventive maintenance schedule and complete assigned tasks within the required timeframe. Conduct regular inspections of kitchen and laundry equipment to identify potential failures before they occur. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment faults, repairs, and replacement parts. Monitor the condition and performance of equipment and recommend replacement or major repair where necessary. Safety & Compliance Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with hotel safety procedures and applicable regulations. Follow proper lockout/tagout and electrical safety procedures when required. Maintain a clean and safe working environment while carrying out maintenance activities. Report any unsafe equipment, electrical hazards, gas leaks, water leaks, or other potential risks immediately. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure tools and equipment are handled safely. Operational Support Coordinate with Kitchen, Stewarding, Housekeeping, and Laundry colleagues to minimize disruption to hotel operations. Attend to urgent breakdowns, particularly during periods of high operational demand. Support Engineering colleagues with general maintenance activities when required. Assist external contractors and specialist technicians during equipment servicing and repairs. Provide technical input when new kitchen or laundry equipment is being installed or commissioned. Energy & Cost Efficiency Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to reduce energy, water, and maintenance costs. Ensure equipment is operated and maintained according to manufacturer recommendations. Avoid unnecessary replacement of parts by accurately diagnosing faults before carrying out repairs. Report recurring equipment issues to the Engineering Supervisor for further action.

Technical diploma or vocational qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Refrigeration, HVAC, or a related field. Previous experience in hotel engineering, commercial kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, or a similar environment. Practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems. Experience troubleshooting commercial kitchen and laundry equipment is preferred. Knowledge of refrigeration, plumbing, heating systems, and basic controls is an advantage. Ability to read basic electrical diagrams and equipment manuals. Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team. Good communication skills and a service-oriented approach. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required by hotel operations. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined or challenging areas when required. Ability to lift and handle tools, equipment, and spare parts safely. Ability to work in hot, humid, noisy, and back-of-house environments. Ability to work at heights where required and in accordance with approved safety procedures.
