Product Development Manager

1. Consumer Insights: Competitive Analysis: Analyze competitor products, pricing strategies, and positioning to identify gaps in the market or areas for differentiation. • Recipe/Formulation Development Ingredient Selection: Identify and select ingredients that meet the desired taste, texture, and nutritional profile of the product. This includes sourcing high-quality raw materials and ensuring compliance with food safety standards. Recipe Formulation: Develop and test initial formulations based on desired product characteristics, considering factors such as flavor, color, aroma, mouthfeel, and shelf-life. Prototyping: Create prototype samples for internal evaluation, ensuring that they meet the quality standards set by the company. Nutritional Optimization: Ensure the product meets desired nutritional targets (e.g., low-sodium, high-protein, gluten-free) and complies with relevant regulations. • Concept Development and Ideation Idea Generation: Brainstorm and develop new product ideas based on market research, consumer insights, and technological innovations. Feasibility Assessment: Evaluate the technical feasibility, cost, and potential profitability of new product ideas. Concept Refinement: Refine ideas into clear product concepts, including defining product attributes (taste, texture, packaging, and nutritional profile). Innovation Workshops: Conduct ideation sessions with cross-functional teams (Management, marketing, regulatory affairs, etc.) to refine concepts. • Prototyping and Scale-Up Small-Scale Production: Develop the product in small batches to test its performance, taste, and consistency under production conditions. Pilot Testing: Conduct a pilot run in the manufacturing facility to ensure the recipe can be scaled up without losing product quality or consistency. Process Optimization: Work with production teams to optimize the manufacturing process, considering factors like equipment capabilities, yield, and ingredient costs. • Regulatory Compliance and Safety Ingredient Safety: Ensure that all ingredients comply with food safety regulations and are safe for consumption (e.g., allergen management, pesticide residues). Food Safety Testing: Conduct microbiological, chemical, and physical tests on the product to ensure it meets food safety standards. Regulatory Approval: Work with regulatory affairs teams to ensure the product meets all applicable legal and regulatory requirements, including certifications, health claims, and labeling. • Packaging Development Packaging Design: Work with design and marketing teams to create packaging that is functional, attractive, and aligned with the brand’s image. Packaging Material Selection: Choose packaging materials that preserve product quality (e.g., moisture barriers, UV protection) and meet sustainability or environmental goals (e.g., recyclable, biodegradable). • Costing and Profitability Analysis Cost Structure Analysis: Estimate the production costs for the new product, including raw materials. Margin Optimization: Adjust product formulations or production processes to ensure the product delivers a desired margin without compromising quality. • Manufacturing and Scaling Production Production Planning: Work with production teams to plan for large-scale production, ensuring consistency in taste, texture, and appearance. Supply Chain Coordination: Ensure the availability of raw materials, packaging, and other components needed for production at scale. Quality Control: Implement quality control measures to maintain product consistency and safety during mass production. • Post-Launch Evaluation and Improvement Market Performance Monitoring: Track sales, customer feedback, and market trends to assess the success of the product. Product Iteration: Based on market performance and customer feedback, make necessary adjustments to the product (e.g., reformulation, repackaging, pricing changes). Continuous Innovation: Use insights from the launch to drive future product iterations, line extensions, or new product ideas. • Sustainability and Environmental Considerations Sustainable Sourcing: Ensure that ingredients are sustainably sourced, considering environmental and social impacts. Waste Reduction: Design products and packaging that minimize waste and align with sustainability goals (e.g., reducing carbon footprint, minimizing food waste). Environmental Certifications: Explore opportunities for certifications such as organic, Fair Trade, or other eco-labels. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in product development within the Beverage or Dairy industry, with a proven track record of successfully bringing new products to market. Experience in managing cross-functional teams and coordinating the development of food products from concept to commercialization. Strong knowledge of food formulation, product scaling, and production processes. Experience with consumer research, sensory testing, and market trend analysis.
