Job Purpose JOB DESCRIPTION The Medium Voltage Electrical Engineer will support the growth of WCS electrical solutions and services for ports and terminals, with a focus on medium voltage systems generally within the 1 kV to 33 kV range. The role will cover technical concept development, feasibility studies, design review, supplier coordination, site assessments, commissioning support and safety training related to terminal substations, MV distribution, interconnection between substations and RTG busbar systems, equipment electrification and EV charging infrastructure. The role is intentionally not limited to candidates with crane or port experience. Strong medium voltage education, certifications, field exposure and experience from utilities, industrial plants, infrastructure, oil and gas, manufacturing, data centres, rail, airports, renewables or similar sectors are considered transferable. The Engineer must hold relevant qualifications and certifications demonstrating expert competence in medium voltage electrical safety, arc-flash risk awareness/assessment and safe MV work practices, and must be capable of delivering practical onsite training and certification sessions to technicians, supervisors and engineers. The role will also identify practical improvement opportunities and future WCS project scope during terminal and customer engagements. Key Accountabilities • Develop and support WCS medium voltage solution capability for port and terminal electrical systems within the 1 kV to 25 kV range. • Prepare and review concepts, feasibility studies, technical specifications and cost inputs for terminal substations, MV/LV distribution, switchgear, transformers, RMUs, protection systems, cable routes, busbar systems and related interfaces. • Support electrification and modernization projects, including RTG busbar connections, equipment retrofit interfaces, shore/terminal power distribution considerations and electrical connection concepts for EV chargers serving trucks and container handling equipment. • Conduct terminal site surveys, load assessments, electrical infrastructure condition reviews and preliminary power demand studies to define practical modernization or electrification options. • Prepare and review single line diagrams, layouts, cable sizing and schedules, protection philosophies, earthing and bonding concepts, short-circuit assumptions, load flow inputs and interface requirements with existing terminal assets. • Coordinate with internal Design, Operations, Project Management, Procurement, HSE and Business Development teams to convert technical findings into executable project scopes and customer proposals. • Review supplier and subcontractor technical offers for MV equipment, substations, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, cables, terminations, testing services and associated installation works. • Support project execution through design reviews, method statements, risk assessments, inspection and test plans, FAT/SAT activities, commissioning planning and technical handover documentation. • Provide technical support on MV testing and commissioning activities, including insulation resistance, VLF/hi-pot where applicable, transformer checks, relay testing, continuity, phasing, earthing verification and energisation readiness reviews. • Develop and deliver onsite medium voltage electrical safety, arc-flash awareness/risk, arc-flash studies (software-based) and certification training programs for technicians, supervisors and engineers, covering safe switching, isolation, lock-out/tag-out, permit to work, earthing, approach boundaries, PPE selection, emergency response and safe work boundaries. • Act as an expert resource for MV arc-flash hazards and safe work practices, including practical guidance on incident energy awareness, shock and arc-flash boundaries, energized work restrictions, safe isolation and verification of absence of voltage. • Maintain training material, attendance records, competence evidence and certification documentation in line with customer and WCS governance requirements. • Engage with terminal engineering and maintenance teams during training/site visits to collect operational feedback, identify risks, and translate findings into potential WCS improvement projects or product development opportunities. • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical safety standards, local regulations, WCS HSE policies, customer site rules and applicable project requirements. • Act as a technical representative and ambassador for WCS, promoting safe behaviours, practical engineering solutions, customer focus and continuous improvement at all times. • Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Qualifications and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or equivalent. A diploma or equivalent technical qualification may be considered where supported by strong MV field experience and recognized authorizations. • Relevant qualifications and certifications demonstrating expert competence in medium voltage electrical safety and arc-flash hazard management are required. • Recognized MV/HV Authorized Person, Senior Authorized Person, switching authorization, or equivalent utility/industrial authorization is strongly preferred. • Arc-flash / electrical safety certification or training aligned with recognized standards such as NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, IEC 50110, OSHA electrical safety or equivalent is required or strongly preferred depending on jurisdiction and candidate background. • Train-the-Trainer, technical instructor, assessor certification or proven experience delivering electrical safety training is required or strongly preferred. • Additional safety qualifications such as IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent are advantageous. Experience • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in medium voltage electrical systems, preferably within the 1 kV to 25 kV range. Senior-level candidates with 8+ years may be considered depending on scope and accountability. • Experience in MV substations, switchgear, transformers, protection systems, cable systems, testing, commissioning, maintenance or electrical infrastructure projects. • Practical experience with arc-flash hazards, energized work restrictions, safe isolation, switching, LOTO, earthing/grounding, permit-to-work systems and MV emergency response requirements. • Experience from utilities, industrial plants, infrastructure, oil and gas, manufacturing, data centres, rail, airports, mining, renewables or similar sectors is considered transferable and acceptable. • Port, terminal, crane, RTG busbar, or container handling equipment experience is an advantage but not mandatory. • Experience delivering technical training, safety briefings, competence assessments or toolbox talks to technicians and maintenance teams is required or highly desirable. • Experience working with multicultural, geographically dispersed teams and customer-facing field environments is preferred. Skills Core Technical Skills • Strong understanding of MV power distribution, substation design principles, transformer sizing, MV switchgear, RMUs, circuit breakers, protection relays, CTs/VTs, metering and electrical interlocking. • Ability to prepare or review single line diagrams, cable sizing, c
