About the Role: We are looking for an experienced and technically proficient Senior Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team at a leading engineering consultancy. This site-based role will play a critical part in the execution and oversight of complex healthcare infrastructure projects, ensuring that all electrical systems are designed, installed, and commissioned to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and healthcare compliance. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of electrical systems on-site, from power distribution and lighting to life safety and medical support systems. You will coordinate closely with mechanical, civil, ICT, and medical planning teams to ensure the seamless integration of electrical systems into healthcare environments. This role demands a strong understanding of healthcare-specific regulations, meticulous attention to detail, and proven leadership in site-based engineering management. Key Responsibilities: • Supervise and manage all electrical engineering activities on-site, ensuring full compliance with design, specifications, and relevant electrical codes and standards specific to healthcare facilities. • Oversee the implementation of electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, nurse call systems, fire alarm, ICT, and medical equipment interfaces. • Conduct detailed site inspections and enforce QA/QC protocols to ensure compliance with healthcare-grade electrical installation standards. • Review and validate electrical designs, load calculations, and shop drawings, ensuring alignment with healthcare project specifications and medical equipment requirements. • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams—including mechanical, civil, and medical planning—to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems. • Monitor progress through detailed daily, weekly, and monthly reporting, identifying risks, delays, and mitigation strategies. • Mentor and guide junior engineers and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to best practices and specialized healthcare electrical requirements. • Maintain thorough documentation, as-built drawings, and testing/commissioning reports in accordance with client and regulatory requirements. • Review and approve method statements and risk assessments for electrical works in sensitive and operational healthcare environments. • Liaise with clients, healthcare consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities to resolve technical issues and maintain project momentum. • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, particularly regarding electrical safety, infection control, and patient care continuity. • Support procurement activities, ensuring the timely delivery and approval of electrical equipment and materials suitable for healthcare environments. • Participate in project planning, commissioning, and final handover phases, ensuring readiness for healthcare facility operations. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution; a Master's degree is an advantage. • 15+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior site-based role on healthcare construction projects. • Proven experience delivering large-scale healthcare developments, such as hospitals, clinics, or medical centers, with deep understanding of electrical systems integration in such environments. • Strong expertise in designing, reviewing, and supervising the installation of electrical systems in healthcare facilities, including: - Essential power and emergency backup systems (e.g., UPS, generators). - Medical-grade electrical systems and isolated power supplies. - Nurse call systems, fire alarm systems, lighting control, data networks, and building management systems (BMS). • Thorough knowledge of healthcare-specific electrical codes, including NFPA 99, IEC 60364, HTM (UK), and local authority regulations. • Proficiency in design tools and platforms such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Dialux, and electrical load calculation software. • Hands-on experience coordinating with mechanical, civil, and medical planning teams to ensure integrated and compliant designs. • Excellent leadership skills with a track record of managing multidisciplinary site teams, subcontractors, and coordination across project stakeholders. • Strong focus on safety, reliability, and infection control requirements in the design and implementation of electrical systems. • Familiarity with international and local electrical standards and regulations applicable to healthcare environments. • Experience working under FIDIC or other internationally recognized construction contracts. • Membership in a recognized professional engineering institution (e.g., IEEE, IET, IES, or local equivalent) is preferred.
