Located within Education City, Hamad Bin Khalifa University is dedicated to developing world-class integrated graduate and select undergraduate academic programs, advancing national research capabilities and cultivating leaders who drive meaningful change. Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is a national research institute tasked with supporting Qatar in addressing its grand challenges related to energy, water, and environment. QEERI – with its experienced scientists, engineers, and technicians supported by its focused management and operations teams, working within its world-class indoor and outdoor facilities – aims to make a lasting positive impact on Qatar and the region. The institute’s work is in line with the goals set forth by Qatar National Vision 2030, and is supported by Qatar Foundation Research, Development and Innovation (QF RDI) Expand All The Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute (QEERI) is seeking a highly motivated and impact-driven Research Scientist to join our multidisciplinary team tackling critical environmental challenges related to the impacts of atmospheric aerosols on climate in arid regions. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong research track record in and passionate about understanding quantifying climate effects of aerosols including new particle formation, aerosol cloud, optical properties and aerosol cloud interactions. The successful candidate will support and lead applied research that combines advanced measurement and characterization in coordination with our existing state-of-the-art air quality and atmospheric composition capabilities and utilize them to advance modelling tools and capabilities. This role plays a key part in shaping our environmental health initiatives and supporting evidence-based indoor air quality policy, guidelines and standards. • Lead the data analysis, interpretation of existing datasets on aerosol and climate effects and exploit them to advance the understanding and impact of this topic in arid regions. • Design, execute, and lead field measurement campaigns characterising atmospheric aerosol properties including new particle formation events, size distributions, optical properties, and chemical composition. • Investigate aerosol cloud interactions and their radiative forcing implications in arid and semi-arid environments, with a focus on the Arabian Peninsula. • Help integrate observational data with regional and global atmospheric models to quantify aerosol climate effects and improve predictive capabilities. • Publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research in leading international journals and present findings at major scientific conferences. • Engage in capacity building and stakeholder impact, including technical reporting and knowledge transfer to public institutions and policymakers. • Lead and contribute to competitive research funding applications at national and international levels. • Contribute to the mentorship and supervision of postgraduate students, research assistants, and early-career researchers. • PhD in relevant scientific or technical fields such as Atmospheric Science, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry or related areas. • Demonstrated expertise and research experience in related fields for a minimum of 3 years post PhD. • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, IGOR Pro or equivalent platforms. • Experience in designing or conducting field measurements and troubleshooting of research grade instruments. • Hands-on experience with aerosol measurement instrumentation (e.g. SMPS, CCN, ACMS, nephelometer, aethalometer, and other related instruments). • Proven record of peer-reviewed publications and contributions to environmental research or applied health studies. • Ability to work independently and lead research activities within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, including experience engaging with national stakeholders, regulators, or multidisciplinary teams. • Experience with or demonstrable understanding of atmospheric modelling frameworks • Experience with science-policy interfaces, including developing technical inputs for environmental health guidelines. • Demonstrated ability to secure research funding, lead collaborative projects, and manage deliverables. To apply, please follow this link Additional documents may be solicited from short-listed candidates. Applications will be reviewed immediately and continue on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. HBKU offers an attractive compensation package that includes a tax-free salary and additional benefits such as an accommodation allowance, annual paid leave, and medical insurance.
