National UNV Assignment - Bahrain Context The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been a longstanding development partner of the Kingdom of Bahrain, supporting national priorities aligned with Bahrain Vision 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and sustainable human development. Through close collaboration with government institutions, UNDP promotes nationally led solutions in areas such as governance, economic development, environmental sustainability, and resilience. This assignment supports UNDP’s growing portfolio on environmental sustainability, climate action, and resilient development. Working with partners including the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), government entities, academia, and the private sector, the programme aims to strengthen environmental governance, climate resilience, and evidence-based decision-making. The UN Volunteer will contribute to environmental assessments, sustainability initiatives, stakeholder coordination, and programme implementation to support Bahrain’s environmental and climate priorities. Description of duties • Support the implementation of environment, climate change, and sustainability-related initiatives. • Assist with the design and execution of environmental assessments, including data collection, analysis, and reporting. • Prepare technical inputs, briefing notes, background papers, policy briefs, and analytical documents. • Contribute to evidence generation and environmental analysis to support programme design and policymaking. • Coordinate with government counterparts, including the Supreme Council for Environment, as well as other stakeholders and partners. • Support the organization of consultations, workshops, technical meetings, and stakeholder engagement activities. • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of Annual Work Plans (AWPs) and programme implementation schedules. • Coordinate with consultants and technical experts involved in environmental assessment and sustainability initiatives. • Prepare presentations, communication materials, and knowledge products, and document lessons learned and good practices. • Support monitoring, reporting, risk tracking, documentation, and maintenance of programme records and filing systems. Profile requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Climate Change, Sustainability, Natural Resources Management, or a related field; a master’s degree is an asset. • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in environmental management, climate change, sustainability, or related areas. • Experience supporting environmental assessments, research, policy analysis, or sustainability programmes is desirable. • Knowledge of the SDGs, environmental governance, and climate-related frameworks. • Experience working with government institutions, international organizations, research centres, or development partners is an advantage. • Strong analytical, research, writing, and reporting skills. • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, database management, and digital collaboration tools. • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. • Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
