Project Manager – Sewerage Rehabilitation & Wastewater Networks Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE Sector: Water / Wastewater / Sewerage Infrastructure Contract: 18 months, with potential for extension Package: Approximately AED 25,000 per month, all-inclusive The Opportunity We are recruiting an experienced Project Manager for a major sewerage network rehabilitation and wastewater infrastructure programme in Abu Dhabi. This is a senior, client-facing position requiring full operational responsibility for the delivery of sewerage network investigation, condition assessment, rehabilitation and repair activities. The successful candidate will manage the assignment from initial field investigations through engineering and rehabilitation planning to construction supervision, testing and final performance verification. This position requires an established Project Manager with substantial experience in sewerage networks, wastewater infrastructure, pipeline rehabilitation and repair projects. Key Responsibilities • Take overall operational responsibility for the project from field investigation through to supervision and verification of rehabilitation and repair works. • Act as the primary day-to-day interface with the client, attending meetings, presenting progress and managing technical and operational matters. • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering, site and technical teams. • Manage and supervise contractors undertaking sewerage rehabilitation and repair activities. • Manage project programmes, resources, deliverables, risks and priorities. • Develop, maintain and monitor project schedules and implement corrective actions where required. • Coordinate pipeline investigations and condition assessments. • Review CCTV surveys, pipeline condition assessments and inspection findings. • Coordinate the identification of defective sewer sections and determine appropriate rehabilitation or repair strategies. • Oversee pipe rehabilitation activities including no-dig/trenchless techniques, CIPP lining, point repairs and equivalent technologies. • Review method statements, technical submissions, designs and specifications. • Supervise site activities and ensure compliance with technical, quality and HSE requirements. • Coordinate testing, inspections and post-repair verification. • Prepare and manage project documentation, progress reports, technical reports, risk registers and client submissions. • Chair project and coordination meetings and ensure actions are followed through to completion. • Manage subcontractors and specialist service providers. • Identify project risks, variations and potential contractual exposures. • Maintain strict HSE compliance, particularly for live sewer networks, confined-space activities and works in active urban environments. Mandatory Requirements Candidates must meet all of the following criteria: • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline. • Currently holding the title of Project Manager, or having held a substantive Project Manager title on the immediately preceding assignment. • Minimum 7 years of substantive experience specifically holding a Project Manager title. • Minimum 12–14 years of total post-graduate professional experience. • Demonstrable experience delivering sewerage network rehabilitation projects. • Strong wastewater and sewerage infrastructure experience. • Direct exposure to pipe rehabilitation and repair works, including no-dig/trenchless rehabilitation, CIPP lining, point repairs or equivalent techniques. • Strong contractor and construction supervision experience. • Proven client-facing project management experience. • Currently based in the UAE. • Valid UAE driving licence. • Immediately available or able to join within a maximum of 30 days. • Excellent written and spoken English. Important: Candidates whose current or immediately previous experience is at Coordination Engineer, Lead Engineer, Senior Engineer, Assistant Project Manager or similar sub-Project Manager level will not meet the client’s requirements. Highly Preferred • CCTV sewer survey experience. • Pipeline inspection and condition assessment. • Hydraulic condition assessment. • Sonar and/or laser pipeline inspection. • Sewer infiltration and inflow investigation. • Sewer rehabilitation and network performance improvement programmes. • Pumping station experience. • GIS / ArcGIS exposure. • Hydraulic modelling exposure. • MS Project or equivalent scheduling software. • Previous consultancy or Resident Engineer experience in Abu Dhabi or elsewhere in the UAE. • Strong knowledge of UAE utility authority procedures. • Native or fluent Arabic. Project Scope The assignment forms part of a major wastewater network performance and rehabilitation programme in Abu Dhabi. The project focuses on investigating an extensive operational sewerage network to identify infiltration, pipeline defects and network performance issues before developing and supervising targeted rehabilitation and repair solutions. The programme covers three principal stages: Phase 1 – Investigation & Condition Assessment • Sewer network field investigations. • Pipeline inspections. • CCTV and other advanced condition assessment techniques. • Wastewater sampling and monitoring. • GIS network analysis. • Hydraulic assessment. • Identification and mapping of network hotspots and defects. Phase 2 – Engineering & Rehabilitation Strategy • Root cause analysis. • Assessment and prioritisation of defective sewer sections. • Selection of appropriate rehabilitation, repair or replacement strategies. • Development of technical specifications. • Evaluation of trenchless and innovative rehabilitation technologies. • Value engineering. Phase 3 – Supervision of Rehabilitation & Repair Works • Supervision of the appointed repair contractor. • Sewer rehabilitation and targeted repairs. • QA/QC inspections. • Testing and verification. • Progress and HSE monitoring. • Post-repair performance assessment. • Completion certification and technical reporting.
