Role Description The Engineering Lecturer is responsible for teaching and undertaking research in Mechanical Engineering in line with the academic standards offered across undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Curtin Dubai. The candidate is expected to have an approach to teaching that is student-centred and will be responsible for conducting lectures, tutorials, assessment and other immersive learning experiences in accordance with established course outlines. Qualifications • An earned PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates in their final writing stage of a PhD program may also be considered. • Teaching experience in higher education systems that follow Australian, UK or similar internationally recognized academic frameworks is highly desirable. • Teaching in Mechanical Engineering discipline, at least at undergraduate level, experience in student supervision, and academic coordination. • Strong knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles, academic research capability, use of engineering software/tools relevant to teaching and research, and familiarity with modern teaching technologies • Excellent communication skills, student engagement, teamwork, mentoring, and adaptability in a multicultural academic environment. • A commensurate track record in academic publishing and in presenting research output in internationally recognized conferences. • Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with students • Experience of working with a diverse range of students • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a team Responsibilities Core Responsibilities • Deliver lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, and student field excursions. • Prepare, administer, invigilate, and mark assessments and examinations. • Provide consultation, guidance, and academic support to students. • Undertake administrative duties as directed by the Head of School. • Attend school, and faculty meetings, and actively contribute to relevant committees and working groups. • Collaborate with the Student Success Centre on teaching, learning, and student engagement initiatives. • Participate in school, community, and industry outreach activities. • Contribute to student recruitment, marketing, and promotional activities for the campus. • Maintain an active research profile and contribute to the University's research agenda. • Foster a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. • Support curriculum development, review, and quality assurance processes. • Contribute to the enhancement of teaching, learning, and assessment practices across the School. Student Support • Provide academic advising and mentoring support to students within the program. • Address student concerns and grievances, and support students in achieving academic success. • Collaborate with academic departments on teaching and learning matters, including academic integrity issues. • Organise and facilitate industry visits, guest lectures, seminars, and workshops involving industry professionals. • Coordinate internships, practicums, work-integrated learning, and other experiential learning opportunities for students. • Develop and implement initiatives that promote student engagement, retention, progression, and success. Community and Industry Engagement • Develop and maintain partnerships with industry, community organisations, professional bodies, and academic institutions. • Promote the program through outreach, engagement, networking, and partnership activities. • Engage with industry stakeholders to ensure program relevance and enhance graduate employability. • Represent the University at relevant industry, community, and professional events. • Contribute to the development of collaborative opportunities that support teaching, research, and student learning outcomes.
