Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Data Centers

Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Data Centers to join our specialist Mission Critical team in Dubai. The role involves leading and delivering mechanical design packages for data center projects, including cooling systems, ventilation, chilled water systems, airside systems, fuel systems, and associated mechanical infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver resilient, efficient, and technically robust mechanical solutions for mission-critical facilities. Responsibilities • Lead the mechanical design of data center projects from concept through detailed design, tender, and IFC stages. • Prepare and review mechanical design calculations, technical reports, specifications, schedules, an drawings. • Develop HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, pressurization, fuel oil, drainage, and mechanical infrastructure design solutions. • Coordinate closely with electrical, ICT, fire, civil, structural, architectural, and BIM teams to ensure fully integrated design delivery. • Support data center cooling strategies, including air-cooled, water-cooled, CRAH/CRAC, chilled water, free cooling, and containment solutions. • Prepare equipment sizing and selections for chillers, pumps, AHUs, CRAHs, FCUs, fans, heat exchangers, tanks, and associated systems. • Review vendor and specialist design submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements and technical standards. • Participate in design coordination meetings, technical workshops, client reviews, and authority discussions. • Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and best engineering practices. • Support value engineering, risk reviews, design change management, and technical problem-solving during project delivery. • Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers and support the development of technical capability within the team. Qualifications & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. • Minimum 8–12 years of experience in mechanical design engineering. • Proven experience working on data center or mission-critical projects. • Strong experience in HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, and mechanical infrastructure design. • Good understanding of data center cooling systems, redundancy requirements, resilience, and operational reliability. • Experience working within engineering consultancy or multidisciplinary design environments. • Strong knowledge of international codes and standards, including ASHRAE, CIBSE, NFPA, UAE/GCC regulations, and relevant data center design guidelines. • Ability to manage design deliverables, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and meet project deadlines. Technical Skills • Strong knowledge of HVAC load calculations, Psychrometrics, ductwork, pipework, equipment sizing, and system schematics. • Experience using design software such as HAP, IES, Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office. • Familiarity with data center CFD studies, airflow management, thermal performance, and equipment room cooling strategies. • Ability to review BIM models, technical drawings, specifications, and interdisciplinary design outputs. • Experience preparing mechanical design reports, technical schedules, equipment selections, and tender documentation. Preferred Attributes • Experience working on hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, or edge data center projects. • Experience with Tier III or Tier IV design requirements and resilient mechanical infrastructure. • Strong coordination skills across MEP, ICT, ELV, fire, architecture, and structural disciplines. • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple project deliverables. • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. • Experience working on projects within the UAE or GCC region is advantageous.
