About the role Position Title: Consultant - Heavy Oil Work Location: Kuwait Department: On-sync Energy Management Services Company. Job Responsibilities • Provide expert technical consultancy and guidance on heavy oil production operations, equipment, and surface facilities. • Identify, assess, and resolve complex operational and technical challenges affecting safe, reliable, and efficient heavy oil production. • Lead troubleshooting, technical assessments, and root-cause analyses for significant or recurring operational issues. • Develop practical mitigation plans and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective implementation of corrective actions. • Review operating practices, production performance, equipment reliability, and recurring issues to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. • Recommend initiatives to optimize production performance, equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and operating costs. • Provide technical assurance for operational changes, modifications, and improvement projects. • Support the preparation and review of operating procedures, technical guidelines, risk assessments, and lessons learned. • Monitor key performance indicators and advise management on operational risks, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities. • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HSE, Process Safety, Inspection, Corrosion, and other technical teams to support integrated decision-making. • Review and optimize chemical usage, handling, compatibility, treatment effectiveness, and performance in heavy oil operations. • Support compliance with applicable HSE requirements, technical standards, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements. • Evaluate and promote new technologies, digital tools, and data-driven solutions to improve operational efficiency, reliability, safety, and production performance. • Provide technical input on heavy oil production systems, steam generation and injection, OTSG systems, surface facilities, and related equipment. • Prepare technical reports, presentations, recommendations, action plans, and management briefings. • Provide technical mentoring, coaching, and knowledge transfer to less experienced personnel. • Support continuous improvement, operational assurance, and risk-management initiatives across heavy oil operations. Qualification Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. • Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Heavy Oil Production, Energy Management, or a related field is preferred. • Minimum 15 years of relevant Oil & Gas experience, including significant experience in heavy oil production, operations, surface facilities, production optimization, and technical support. • Minimum 5 years in a senior technical, specialist, advisory, or consultant-level role. • Extensive experience in heavy oil production operations, including production systems, steam generation and injection, OTSG technology, and related surface facilities. • Proven experience in technical troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, operational assurance, performance improvement, and risk mitigation. • Strong understanding of production optimization, equipment reliability, process performance monitoring, and operational risk management. • Experience reviewing operating procedures, technical standards, process data, performance trends, and engineering documentation. • Strong knowledge of HSE requirements, risk assessment, permit-to-work systems, and process safety practices. • Proficiency in MS Office and project management tools such as MS Project; familiarity with enterprise asset management and production reporting systems is an advantage. • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and stakeholder-management skills. • Ability to work effectively under operational pressure, manage multiple priorities, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams. • Strong written and spoken English communication skills; Arabic is an advantage. • Training or certification in Root Cause Analysis, HAZOP/HAZID, process safety, production optimization, reliability engineering, or similar areas is preferred. • Professional engineering registration or membership with a recognized engineering body is an advantage. • Project management or continuous improvement certification such as PMP or Lean Six Sigma is an advantage. • PhD in a relevant engineering or energy discipline is an advantage.
