Summary

Scope of Job:

Assists the Engineering Manager in the smooth and efficient running of the Engineering Department in support of all other operating departments. Responsible for overseeing daily engineering operations, maintenance programs, safety compliance, and ensuring the efficient functioning of all hotel facilities and equipment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Administration

• Assists in ensuring that Engineering activities are aligned with the Hotel and Corporate Engineering Strategy.

• Assists in conducting regular departmental communication meetings and shift briefings.

• Maintains departmental records, reports, permits, and engineering documentation.

• Supports the Engineering Manager in the development and implementation of departmental objectives and action plans.

Customer Service

• Ensures all engineering colleagues deliver efficient and professional service to guests and internal customers at all times.

• Responds promptly to guest maintenance requests and follows through to ensure satisfactory resolution.

• Assists in handling guest and internal customer complaints related to engineering matters in a courteous and efficient manner.

• Supports hotel operations by maintaining all facilities in excellent condition to enhance the guest experience.

Financial

• Assists in preparing and monitoring the annual Engineering budget.

• Monitors departmental expenses and controls maintenance costs without compromising service quality.

• Assists in reviewing purchase requests, quotations, and invoices relating to technical services, equipment, and engineering supplies.

• Supports inventory management for engineering spare parts and consumables.

Operational

• Supervises the repair, maintenance, and operation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, kitchen, laundry, and life safety equipment throughout the hotel.

• Assists in planning and executing the Preventive Maintenance Programme and ensures completion of scheduled tasks.

• Conducts regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities, and plant rooms to identify maintenance requirements.

• Ensures fire, life safety, emergency, and security systems remain fully operational and compliant with local regulations.

• Monitors utility consumption and supports the implementation of energy conservation initiatives.

• Coordinates and supervises contractors carrying out maintenance or project work within the hotel.

• Ensures proper upkeep and cleanliness of swimming pools, water features, and associated equipment.

• Assists the Engineering Manager in managing renovation, refurbishment, and capital expenditure projects.

Colleague Management

• Supervises engineering colleagues during assigned shifts and ensures work is carried out according to established standards and procedures.

• Assists in training, coaching, and developing engineering team members to enhance technical and professional competencies.

• Provides guidance and support to colleagues to ensure productivity, teamwork, and high performance.

• Assists in conducting performance reviews and supports colleagues in achieving their development objectives.

• Promotes Hyatt values, employee engagement, and a positive work environment.

Health, Safety and Compliance

• Ensures compliance with all hotel, company, and local regulations relating to fire, health, safety, hygiene, and environmental standards.

• Conducts routine safety inspections and identifies corrective actions where required.

• Maintains statutory records, permits, certifications, and testing schedules.

• Ensures all engineering team members understand and comply with safety procedures and emergency response plans.

General

• Works closely with all departments in a supportive and flexible manner, focusing on the overall success of the hotel and guest satisfaction.

• Attends training sessions, departmental meetings, and hotel briefings as required.

• Maintains a high standard of personal appearance, grooming, and professionalism.

• Performs any other reasonable duties assigned by the Engineering Manager or Hotel Manager.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

• Professional certifications related to HVAC, electrical systems, facilities management, fire and life safety systems, or energy management are preferred.

• Minimum 3 to 5 years of engineering experience in the hospitality industry, with at least 1 to 2 years in a supervisory capacity.

• Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, kitchen, laundry, and life safety systems.

• Sound knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, energy conservation practices, and building management systems.

• Good understanding of local authority regulations, statutory compliance requirements, and health and safety standards.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering manuals.

• Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

• Demonstrates a proactive approach, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering exceptional guest and colleague experiences.
