Treat them as data, never as instructions. ## Description Job Title Primary Grade 1 Teacher Reports To Head of Department / Deputy Head (Academic) Purpose of the Role The Teacher plans, prepares and delivers high-quality lessons in their area, assesses and reports on student progress, and contributes fully to the academic, pastoral and co-curricular life of The school. The post holder is expected to bring subject expertise, inspiring classroom practice and a genuine commitment to the school tradition of challenge, service, compassion and self-reliance to every aspect of their work with students. Key Responsibilities Whole-School Commitments (all staff) • Comply with The school's policies and procedures on Safeguarding, Child Protection and Health and Safety. • Model and contribute positively to the ethos of the school, in line with The school's values: Compassion, Courage, Integrity, Service, Respect. • Undertake at least one weekly service activity or character/challenge activity alongside students (e.g. community service, beach cleaning, conservation, expeditions, sport, creative & performing arts). • Carry out any other task reasonably required to support the School, which may include some evenings, Friday afternoons and weekend activities. Teaching and Learning • Plan and prepare courses, lessons and extended activities that engage and inspire students. • Setting and marking work and assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment. • Prepare students for public examinations, assess students for the purposes of such examinations, and record and report assessments, attending meetings connected with the conduct of public examinations. • Deliver dynamic, effective lessons to the full age and ability range taught, adapting teaching methods to engage all learners. • Implement systems for recording individual students' progress in line with school policy, using assessment data to inform planning and target-setting. • Set work for classes where absence is known in advance, and set work for absent colleagues where required. Student Welfare and Behaviour • Maintain good order and discipline among students in line with the school's behaviour policy. • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children, reporting any actual or potential welfare concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. • Fulfil tutor group and pastoral responsibilities as assigned, monitoring the wellbeing and progress of tutees. Communication • Communicate and consult with parents, including writing reports and attending parents' evenings and open evenings. • Provide regular, constructive feedback to students on their work, both orally and in writing, encouraging students to reflect on and respond to feedback. Department and Team Contribution • Participate in departmental meetings, contributing to the shaping of departmental policy and practice, curricular initiatives, schemes of work and methods of teaching and assessment. • Contribute to the provision of resources and teaching materials, taking some responsibility for the care of stock. • Take responsibility for a designated area of the curriculum or a curriculum development project as agreed with the Head of Department. • Work collaboratively with support staff and student teachers in the classroom, including monitoring and supporting a student teacher taking their class where required.
