Purpose of the Role

The Secondary English Teacher at Smart Vision School is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and inclusive English lessons that support the academic, social, and emotional development of secondary students. The teacher will create a positive and challenging learning environment, inspire a love of literature and language, and encourage critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication.

This role aligns with UK Teachers’ Standards, the KHDA Education Inspection Framework, and the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) English curriculum, ensuring excellence in teaching, safeguarding, wellbeing, inclusion, and student achievement. The teacher will maintain effective communication with parents and colleagues and contribute to the broader SVS community.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

• Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across all secondary year groups, aligned with school schemes of work and UAE MoE curriculum standards.

• Use strong subject knowledge and creative pedagogy to inspire and challenge students.

• Adapt lessons to meet the needs of Students of Determination, ELL learners, and students with diverse abilities.

• Employ a variety of teaching strategies, including ICT, project-based learning, and literature-focused activities to enhance engagement.

• Foster independent, confident, and lifelong learners with strong literacy and critical thinking skills.

• Model best practice in academic integrity, creativity, and literary analysis.

Assessment, Recording, and Reporting

• Assess and record student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and guidance.

• Support students in setting and achieving personal learning targets.

• Produce reports and maintain accurate records of academic, social, and emotional development.

• Communicate effectively with parents regarding students’ progress, achievement, and next steps.

Pastoral and Behaviour Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain clear, consistent expectations for behaviour aligned with school policies and values.

• Promote respect, empathy, and inclusion within the classroom and wider school community.

• Take proactive measures to safeguard students from abuse, bullying, or discrimination.

• Support students’ personal development and wellbeing through mentoring and guidance.

Curriculum Development

• Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans aligned with UK and UAE MoE curriculum standards.

• Contribute to the development of teaching resources, assessment methods, and enrichment activities.

• Embed UAE heritage, culture, and values across the English curriculum.

• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure cohesive, high-quality provision across subjects.

Professional Development and Contribution

• Engage in continuous professional development and reflect on teaching practice.

• Actively participate in departmental and whole-school meetings and initiatives.

• Support school events, after-school activities, and community engagement.

• Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity at all times.

Essential

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

• Relevant teaching qualification in English (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent)

• Minimum of two years’ teaching experience in secondary education

• Strong understanding of assessment, differentiation, and inclusion

• Excellent command of English (written and spoken)

• Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and wellbeing requirements

Desirable

• Experience teaching in UAE or international schools

• Familiarity with KHDA inspection standards and UAE MoE secondary English curriculum
